Music promoter Jai Banda has heaped praise on Paul Banda and Alleluya Band, saying their handling of sound at Sunbird Sand Festival on Saturday showed they are serious-minded live performers.

Banda of Entertainers Promotion was clarifying media reports that the 35-year-old group from Balaka installed their own speakers to give patrons at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi a refreshing breeze of flawless sound.

Sir Paul subjected Entertainers’ equipment to a thorough sound-check which lasted about 20 minutes—and they got what they wanted.

In an interview, Jai (showbiz name Mr Entertainer) said the 55 000 watts set once again proved to be the best in the country, branding it tested and proven.

He also promised not to relent on restocking the band instruments, saying: “Other artists might have had problems with it, but it was not the fault of the equipment. The problem is sound engineering. That is why I always insist on artists to do sound check.

“Paul Banda and Alleluya once more showed that they are serious-minded musicians, established and well conversant with sound quality. The output was good because they know how to balance the equipment.”

Alleluya, who first performed as Chimangafisi Accapela group on Friday, were arguably the best act of last week’s lakeside festival with Sir Paul giving gig-goers over an hour of well-choreographed hits and memories that exemplified to younger artists what sound control entails.

When asked to name the best act of the fest, organiser-in-chief Soldier Lucius Banda was green with envy about his brother.

He said: “It is hard to choose the best of the stars that made the festival a huge success, but Paul was in a class of his own. Skeffa Chimoto, Sally Nyundo and Edgar ndi Davis were also amazing.”

Edgar ndi Davis were performing for the first time with Edgar Kachere who has been in Germany on a study tour in Germany.
